There's almost a poem a page in this book, so get used to it, unless you're reading one of the bullshit translations that duck the poetry altogether. This was the Heian Period, an effete and decadent time where folks spent most of their time writing poetry to women hidden behind screens and then weeping about the beauty of a sunrise.Īs I bend into my couch to binge Nashville The world of Japan couldn't have been more different. In Europe, someone was writing Beowulf about hacking the arms off monsters. Crucially, the lady writes it down and here we are with history's first novel, the origin story of Japan, their Homer and their Star Wars, the winding and weird Tale of Genji. Over years, the lady spins a long, elaborate story containing the princess's favorite theme: hot dudes nailing chicks. One of her ladies-in-waiting is good at making them up. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some scenes are so vivid such as the winter part where I almost felt the same isolation that Richard felt, as well has the tension, that something bad might happen anytime during the second half of the book after the murder. I loved the timeless feel that this book really gave off. ![]() I completely get why people say her book feels like reading a classic with the way her prose is written (can't properly describe it in words, but having read classics for this month I get why people have said this). Even her describing foliage and environment was beautiful, like each word was carefully picked to hold up a sentence. The book was about 600 pages long but I honestly did not want it to end! Donna Tartt has such a way with words that her prose has left such a big impression on me. ![]() 7/8/2023 0 Comments Allies book by alan gratz![]() His first novel was such a big hit that it went on to feature in the top 10 best books for young adults by ALA in the year 2007. At first, Julian seems like the boy he once knew. Then the doctor asks him to track down the troubled freshman who keeps dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is Julian - the foster brother he hasn't seen in five years. When Adam Blake lands the best elective ever in his senior year, serving as an aide to the school psychologist, he thinks he's got it made. ![]() Description This "gripping and moving" story of two foster brothers sharply examines the impact of loss, grief, and abuse (Emma Donohgue, bestselling author of Room) - and celebrates the power of friendship. ![]() ![]() And How not having FAQs on your gig is connected me not knowing your niche? □♀️ I work with book publisher, I do know what is book explainer is and I’m telling you even what doesn’t make sense in your gig description. Neither an Egyptian by blood nor an actual Greek - she could trace her ancestry on her father's side to the original Ptolemy, a general of Alexander the Great - she was a fabulous hybrid of those cultures and several others which were native to the Egypt of the first century B.C. As Joyce Tyldesley phrases it in her fascinating and irresistible biography, "Cleopatra, Last Queen of Egypt," "it is clearly never going to be possible to write a conventional biography of Cleopatra." So Tyldesley has gone ahead and written one.Īn archaeologist, author ("Daughters of Isis"), and popular consultant for TV shows on ancient history, Tyldesley has chosen to re-create her subject by putting together the puzzle pieces of history that surround Cleopatra's life and legend. Cleopatra has generated more fame - in the form of poems, paintings, books, plays and films - per known fact than any woman in history. ![]() |
